CAFOD is the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development. It is the official overseas development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD has been fighting poverty in developing countries since 1962. CAFOD believes that all human beings have a right to dignity and respect, and that the world’s resources are a gift to be shared equally by all men and women, whatever their race, nationality or religion. CAFOD is a member of the Caritas International Federation, a worldwide network of Catholic relief and development organisations.

Caritas The eradication of poverty and social inequality lies at the very core of what we do. Caritas provides assistance to the most vulnerable on behalf of Catholics around the world.

Pax Christi – meaning Peace of Christ, is a gospel-based lay-inspired, peacemaking movement.  Founded in the Catholic Church, its membership is open to individuals, groups and organisations of all faiths who are in sympathy with its aims and values.

PRO-LIFE ORGANISATIONS

Society for the Protection of Unborn Children  SPUC affirms, defends and promotes the existence and value of human life  from the moment of conception.

Life provides help and support to thousands of women and men each year.  Their core services are Caring, Education, Housing and the FertilityCare progamme.

The Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initiative   On 9 March 1997, the late Cardinal Thomas  Joseph Winning launched a major practical initiative to help women facing a crisis pregnancy.  In these ten years they have assisted countless women and their families, practically, financially, emotionally and spiritually.

The Sisters of the Gospel of Life were founded in 2000 as a fruit of the Initiative .  Use the player below to hear Sr Roseann Reddy’s talk on the work of the Initiative and the Sisters of the Gospel of Life given recently at Camborne in Cornwall, at the invitation of Fr Chris Findlay-Wilson, parish priest.

YOUNG PEOPLE  AND THE CHURCH

Youth SVP  When you join a Youth SVP group, you volunteer to offer one-to-one help and support to people in need in the local community.

HCPT  The Pilgrimage Trust   HCPT organise pilgrimages to Lourdes for 1000s of disabled people each year.  There are many ways you can get involved.

Youth 2000
is an independent, international initiative that helps young adults aged 16-35 find God in the heart of the Catholic Church.

Catholic Gap Year  There is no need to forget you are a Catholic in your gap year!  Look at this site for ideas of how to spend your year as a Catholic helping others and developing your Catholic identity.
